Another hot, dry, blue-sky day in Provence. This morning we went for a pleasant walk in the fields and lanes over near Lacoste. It was meant to be a circular walk but there is a bit of further route finding to be done before this one can be written up. The first photo is of a beautiful driveway that we go past frequently. It always looks great and will be stunning in a few weeks when the lavender is in full bloom. (I think Dellas wishes our driveway at Denmark, WA was longer) For lunch we decided to try an Italian Deli that received great reviews on Trip Advisor. Reading these we were not really sure if it was a restaurant or a shop. We threw caution to the wind and decided to investigate. It is mainly a shop but what a gem! Only a couple of tables under a shady awning and a bit of a blackboard menu from which you don't actually order. Our charming Italian host and proprietor Elia described each course of the antipasto style fare to us and the origins of the produce. For starters there was home grown tomatoes, 4 different varieties with basil and 2 types of buffalo mozzarella cheese, Italian olive oil and fresh crusty bread. It a word...bellissimo! Then there was a carpaccio of Chianina beef with parmigiarno cheese shavings, rocket, balsamico and olive oil. Finally we had melon and Parma ham. It was fresh and delicious....summer on a plate. A Liquore di Mandarini from Villa Massa in Sorrento was offered as a digestive - like Limoncello but made from mandarins - fantastico. After some conversation with Elia it turns out he and his American wife had booked our Waterwheel apartment for friends over Christmas and they live in the same street as Market Village apartment. It is a small world. Ciao
