It may surpise some to know that Simon and I have quite set ideas in some areas. We call them The Rules. For example we have rules about coathangers - must be wooden, and china - must be white (OK a little bit of blue is acceptable too). Well, walls must be white and especially in Provence. The Provençale often favour a yellow sponged effect on their walls - you also see it done in an ochre colour too, and purple. Definetly not our cup of tea (English Breakfast). We like white walls. And so Le Vieux Platane has just been painted white throughout. It looks great - clean and fresh and ready to have some artwork. The exposed wooden beams look great aginst the white backdrop. The painter, Ray, has done a sterling job of sorting out the plaster where required and painting over all the existing cream colour.
I am thinking about painting the doors Farrow and Ball French Gris and I might just paint some of the chests of draws in that too. The house is coming together. Elayne and the girls have cleaned and organised it within an inch of its life and the new furniture has started to arrive. In three weeks time we will be there to finalise everything - can't wait.
